Greetings from My Mountain Cabin,
One of the most powerful words in your vocabulary is "choice." You have the power to choose the thoughts you think. If a string of obsessive negative thinking causes disharmony in your life, choose otherwise. And remember, research has shown a thought is a vibrational energy pattern that actually has the power to manipulate particles.
Thoughts are things! They can dramatically affect your mood and even your health!
Imagine yourself holding an artist's palette of colors representing all emotions that are common to the human experience. Waiting for your paintbrush are little dabs of joy, envy, anxiety, satisfaction, wonderment, bliss, terror, contemplation, misery, lightheartedness . . . you get the point. Every emotion humans are capable of experiencing is on your wooden slab. And your emotions are borne in your thoughts.
Now imagine yourself being able to clearly discern which is which--perhaps those thoughts that are life sustaining yield bright hues of red, yellow, blue and green, while those that have a negative association are dark gray, olive drab and black. Which ones will you choose?
As the Artist in charge of painting the picture of your life, you have the power to choose its composition. If the emerging picture is not something that symbolizes joy, hope and optimism, simply select other colors. Wipe your palette clean of those pigments that compromise your happiness.
When I was in grad school back in the early 80’s, I had a friend who was obsessed by the Jonestown Massacre. Recall, Rev. Jim Jones had his followers swallow poisoned cool-aid in a mass suicide/murder. My friend could not get it out of his mind. He constantly dwelled on the human tragedy, so much so that I thought he was going to get physically sick. I encouraged my friend to take responsibility for his own thinking and to realize that their were events occurring in the world on a global scale over which he had no influence. Certainly, have sympathy for the plight of those poor misguided souls who fell under the mind-control of a religious zealot, but do not allow your empathy to drag you down into a black hole.
I am NOT advocating a stick your head in the sand and maybe it will all get better approach to domestic and foreign crises. I am saying that if there is anything inevitable in the course of human events, it is change. Soooo . . . start with disciplining yourself to entertain thoughts that are positive and life affirming.
As Mohandas Gandhi (for most of his life he eshewed the term Mahatma, which means Great Soul) said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
(Re-read the first paragraph above.)
May you spend your day in Love and Light, surrounded by those who give meaning and purpose to your life.
It is still a beautiful world.
Be well, do good work, keep in touch,
Ed
