A Veteran is someone who, at one time in her or his life, signed a check made out to "The United States of America" in the amount of "My life, payable in full if need be."
Greetings from My Mountain Cabin,

For far too many, that check was cashed. Even beyond family grief, the ultimate casualty of warfare is the loss of human potential—an enormous tragedy for society as a whole.
On this Memorial Day, I invite you to pause in commemoration of those who have worn and are wearing the uniform of our Armed Forces. There are no noble wars . . . only noble Warriors.

And a salute to you, GEN Petraeus . . . CURRAHEE!
